The most important thing to me is my family, my grandfather told us many stories about our elders and our family history. We have so many stores within our family, I can’t think of a better story than that. I am an Australian Aboriginal. I was born on Thursday Island and grew up in New Mapoon community, in the NPA (Northern Peninsula Area). My father is from the Atambaya Clan and my mother is from the Mpakwithi Clan near Old Mapoon, and also has ties to the Atambaya Clan.

Most of my upbringing was influenced by Mpakwithi custom and traditions. I tell a lot of stories from my mother’s side through my art, because her uncle spent a lot of time with us when we were growing up. He knows so much about the culture because he would run away from boarding school and sit with the old people and learn language and culture.

I was also heavily influenced by the stories taught to me by my grandfather Donald Fletcher who told us stories about growing up with thier elders.
